Island and Historic Fort Scammel Boat Tour – One of a Kind Experience in Maine!
Duration
The tour is two hours round trip, with one hour dedicated to exploring House Island and Fort Scammel.
About
Fort Scammel on House Island is the only fort in Portland Harbor to have seen active combat, and most locals have never seen it up close. Now, for the first time, SeaPortland is bringing you to this historic site via the Elizabeth Grace and a boat tour that no other company in Portland can offer.
Casco Bay’s stone fortresses, most built in the early 19th century, are captivating characters in the story of Maine history. They recall an era when the defense of our coastline was needed. Now, they’re gorgeous relics perched on the Bay’s various islands, each with its own unique identity.
Fort Scammel, privately-owned and inaccessible to the public for decades, is now open for tours only with SeaPortland. Our boat tour will cruise through the Harbor towards House Island, passing iconic lighthouses along the way, where we will disembark for an adventurous exploration of the island.
This is a one-of-a-kind experience that is uniquely Maine. Don’t miss it.
